Meta, Colombia. The Colombian Amazon region is continually threatened by the expansion of the agricultural frontier. According to the Ideam Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, in 2018 the deforestation in the Amazon was 144,147 hectares and 138,176 hectares in 2019.
Large extensions of oil palm crops are located in the departments of meta, vichada, caqueta, on the edge of the Amazon region, they generate environmental problems such as
soil infertility in a few years, the decrease of water sources and the reduction of biodiversity.
